What We’ve Learnt After 1 Year of (Caravan) Living

Wow! That has come around quickly. Just over a year ago our family embarked on an adventure that none of us were prepared for. And in those 365 days we have learnt so much more about ourselves and life in general.

So, firstly, to my fam- you guys rock! I know it hasn’t always been fun, some days have felt downright awful. We’ve screamed and shouted and said nasty things to one another but through it all we’ve stuck together. We’ve learnt not to sweat the small stuff, we’ve learnt that home (no matter how big or small) really is where the heart is. We’ve learnt to switch off the kettle and heater when Sebastian blow dries his coiffe. We’ve learnt that having more than 1 bathroom is a serious luxury. We’ve learnt that 3 teenagers CAN get themselves ready for school, in record time, in the smallest of spaces. We’ve learnt that spiders aren’t really that scary. We’ve learnt that you always check that there is water in the Aquaroll before having a shower. We’ve learnt that metres and metres of building plastic, washing up liquid, a slope and a tow car makes for the BEST slip n slide ever. We’ve learnt that when you have Wifi restrictions you need to use your data wisely. We’ve learnt that the most valuable things are the ones you can’t put a price on- your family, your friends, sunsets, thunderstorms and the donkey in the next field recognising your voice. We’ve learnt that some of the most amazing people out there are living in caravans, motorhomes and vans (just like us)! We’ve learnt that if you really want something in life you need to go for it. You need to be willing to take the risk and push on through.

Life isn’t fair, it doesn’t keep track of how many good deeds you’ve done and bad or unexpected things happen. We are not in control but that shouldn’t stop us from living. On a personal note I’ve learnt to stop stressing and rushing. I literally take time to smell the flowers and watch the sunrise. Some mornings my heart feels so full of excitement I feel like I could explode- and I absolutely love it. For me less really is more- less possessions equals more time, more freedom, more living.

Here’s to the next 365 days and all the exciting adventures it brings with it. Here’s to our caravan for teaching us lessons you could never learn in school, here’s to our friends and family and all the incredible people we’ve met thus far…and lastly, here’s to Our Travelling Family x

*If you have a moment please take a look at our new YouTube channel. We will be uploading a video every 2 weeks giving you an insight into life in a caravan, preparations for our trip and all the amazing places we will be visiting.

Love the lessons you’re learning… and I’m sure us reading it can take a page out of your book and stop and smell the flowers and watch the sun rise and set. Always the inspiration ‘Our Travelling Fam’🙌🏻

Wow—you guys certainly so relaxed in spite of the stresses and strains of constant car break downs.
Doesnt the garage carry some responsibility for selling you a problem child?? Anyway, you are certainly handling this caravanning and challenges far better than most people I know–AND you manage to make it look exciting and fun!!! Well done
